Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. The character Jackie Harris was played by her mother in both the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. Her parents, however, did not let her perform until she reached the age of adulthood because of the effects stress would have on their daughter. Perry claimed that she was nervous to be an actor in high school but began performing in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to meet new people after she transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry began her career in New York after graduation, performing in minor role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, the feeling of homelessness made Perry come back to California and find work as an actress in the theater. The Other Place was performed by her and her mom in 2013 on Broadway in 2013. She performed with their father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 at The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. Perry was also featured in a role on ABC's political thriller Scandal alongside her father. That same year she was cast as a younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger character of her mom's role. She was cast in the role despite her close familial connection to the character.
